About the Owners

Paul Mawdsley: Over 20 years in flooring and woodworking businesses, with experience in installations, service work, personnel training, sales, and store management. Paul worked for one of the largest flooring companies in Canada, operated as part of the largest floor covering buying group in North America, and contributed to the development of a local woodworking company that has been in business for over 20 years.


Shauna Mawdsley: Fifteen years building an extensive background in store management, customer service, promotions, and office administration. With an intuitive and practical eye to design and decor, Shauna has a gift for bringing a client’s design elements into a complete and harmonious vision.


Origin of Harmony

Harmony Hardwood Stairs & Flooring emerged from the combining of four elements:

  1. Void in the Marketplace: In the last 20 years the retail flooring market has been moving away from traditional high service/high margin stores. It has been moving towards big box and warehouse type stores that have admirably reduced flooring product costs to consumers but have eroded the quality of decorating consultation, product advise, installation service and individual accountability. Harmony sees this void in service as a new niche to be filled.

  2. 2nd Void in the Marketplace: Consumers who have been buying hardwood flooring all these years want a quality and cost effective solution for transforming their carpeted stairs into a hardwood staircase that can match the beauty of their floors. This requires a company that can combine woodworking proficiency with flooring knowledge and installation expertise. Again, Harmony sees this void in refacing hardwood stairs as a new niche to be filled.

  3. New Substance to fill the Void: The owners and originators of Harmony take pride in bringing more substance than facade to the marketplace. They have an extensive background in the flooring industry and experience in woodworking/manufacturing. They bring strengths in decorating consultation, product advise and installation service. Harmony sets high standards in customer service and individual accountability in a client-centred business environment. Harmony strives to fill the voids in the marketplace with products and services that meet traditional standards in innovative and cost effective ways.

  4. Connecting Force: People networks are the most powerful and cost effective means of connecting consumers and companies. The best way for a company to reach consumers is to generate positive word-of-mouth marketing. The best way for a consumer to choose a quality company with fair prices is to seek references from their network of contacts. Harmony’s goal is to reach new clients through the recommendations of existing clients, and a network of businesses, who know our work.
